Are Dreams Truly Un-achievable?
Right now, I'm sitting in my room watching the Screen Actors' Guild Award Ceremony...and thinking. Thinking about what you ask?
About lost dreams and aspirations. I call these 'lost' because it sometimes seems as if there is no way of ever returning to these once vivid and viable dreams for a whole host of reasons i.e lack of confidence or lack of support from caregivers.
My dream was to become an Actor. I wanted to hit the stage with all its lights and beautiful literature of which I could empathise on the stage before people willing to listen.
I wanted to hit the big screen, walk in the footsteps of the greats; be recognized, show my passion or to even stand up and make an acceptance speech at the BAFTAs, Oscars or SAGs...however this wasn't to be.
I became de-motivated. I became disjointed, and lost sight of the vision for a split second and in that minuscule amount of time the malevolent presence of destruction decided to infringe on my hopes and dreams leaving room for doubt, fear and major self-criticism.
What made it worse was the lack of support from my parents. That's not to say that they were totally against me going down this root but it was more of a lack of interest in the subject as if they were totally indifferent to what I wanted however secretly I believed they wanted me to do something more 'substantial'...A doctor? A lawyer? An engineer of some sorts.
As children we want, more than anything, to please our parents. But I ask, 'At what cost?' The cost of your happiness and fulfillment HOPING that all will work out fine in the end.
To the credit of parents, they only want the best for their children and usually these attitudes are distributed generation through generation until one child decides to go against the grain and DO WHAT THEY LOVE!
I hate to think that if I had not been dissuaded from my true goal, I would be happier? Where would I be now? It's possible that I could have been on tv or on stage but it is also possible that I could have been trudging through with no work at all.
The main point I want to make with this post is: whatever your dream is, whatever you can conceive yourself doing which will ultimately make you happier GO FOR IT. It's easier said than done however as we are all on the pursuit of happiness wouldn't the nectar be sweeter at the end through the thorns than on just an easy path?
Go for your dreams and fulfill yourself to the fullest.
